Real moms ignore their children sometimes, too. Utterly. Completely. Inexcusably, at times.
And when they dare to speak or come near her, she contorts her face almost beyond recognition and screams loudly profanities such as the SU word and offers no apologies, and sometimes even worse than that.
A real mother feels regret for actions, but is comforted by the collective resilience and affection of her young.
And she reminds herself as her own real mother reminded her long before she bore children, "Tomorrow is another day."
And it is.
And I will keep right on breathing, Lord willing, and being real.

Got a kick out of the pants post! Incidentally, the only reason I now have any kind of clue about fasion is BECAUSE of Stacy and Clinton, BLESS THEIR HEARTS!! Oh, and I know a real mom who can spend a whole Saturday on a kid-catering high, gettin all jiggy wit da kids jumping and flipping on mattresses, coming up with obstacle courses and table hockey she helps create and partake in, and the next day, not go to church, because she stayed up till 4:00 watching chick flicks, and who spent a good part of the day antisociall reading while the kids were on their own, quite happily. She still felt guilty whilst indulging in such selfishness.
I know this one amazing real mom who bakes biscuits from scratch, sews Halloween costumes, garages sales all summer to find the latest and coolest fashions for her four children, MAKES quilts for babies other than her own just because, is a reliable friend to many, a daughter-in-law who gives selflessly, a baker who makes treats for her neighbors to bless them as they are grieving the loss of their pet, uses and teaches her children humor and it's value. The list goes on and on and on. I love this particular real mom because she is just that. REAL. Honest. True. I wish I were more like her.
Thanks for taking my kids on Saturday, they seem to get along with Kathryn better than I do. I apologize for cutting into your blogging time and hope things will settle down a little.

Real moms and beyond.. I told you you should write a book. You Hazens with your wit and whimsey...
Man, I blew my own cover when I said I would keep right on breathing and being real. I meant SHE would, not I. This was a totally hypothetical post about a hypothetical mother.
So thanks, fellow real mom's...and umm...Dave.
Lori, I am always so comforted by your moments of realness that you choose to share. And thanks for your words of praise, Amy. The biscuits really weren't that good after all the hype. They tasted like oven-on-fire. I wish I were more like YOU. And KW, if ever I do write a book, I may ask you to edit it.
Real moms take a break from their blogs once in a while:)
