I just wanted the world to know I love my sister.
She may have nearly maimed me for life with the handle of her sharp pink hair brush in Yosemite when I was 3 and may have laughed maniacally after tearing my longest, most cherished fingernail asunder just for fun on Christmas Eve when I was 7, but I like her anyway.
Thanks for a great week, sister friend. You're the best!

You just want the world to know that you have a fluffy sister. Or a sister who needs fluffing.
The Journey
Mary Oliver
One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice--
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do--
determined to save
the only life you could save.
Heck yes, I do! Fluff, fluff, fluff, right in the Burger King store for all to see.
Good thing you commented. I was fixin' to email you and ask you to so I wouldn't look like a complete homo when everybody who was not my sister chose not to comment.
I wasn't quite ready to go public with my chewing tobacco addiction just yet, but now you've tipped everyone off with this poem. Thanks! If everybody must know, my name is Janelle and I chew Copenhagen, sometimes Skoal, it don't matter I just love my snuff. I am one day dip-free and on my journey to recovery.
Here's to super sisters and saving lives.
I love you!
Man, talk about sisters and secret codes!!
Uh huh...das right!
Fluffing? Skoal? Saving lives? Are there any footnotes or glossaries to this blog?
I love your sister too!
Wish I could have seen your beautiful face while you were here, Julie!
